NQT Training 2017-18

location - various tba

25 June 2018

Next session Monday 25 June time/venue tbc

This is the package training from the Wessex Group for NQTs, spanning the first year. As well as the useful, informative and professionally delivered content, the NQTs are immediately part of a network of like-minded individuals who they are likely to meet again in their careers within and outside the Wessex Group of colleges. This network can be a great support group for them, especially in this first year.

Last year the response to the NQT induction programme from the delegates was ‘good’ and ‘excellent’ and we will be tweaking content to reflect feedback. Just to give you a flavour of the types of areas we cover

Day 1: How to survive the first few months of teaching – practical tips about lesson planning. Content to include:

  • Basic lesson planning in reality
  • Students today – things you may face in the next few years; resilience / mental health issues (NOT safeguarding)
  • Introduction to the network
  • What’s working; sharing ideas; curriculum priorities
  • Ex-NQT insight
  • Supporting students who need help with their learning
  • Survival guide to lesson observation
  • Effective marking, assessment and feedback
  • Good Ideas for the Classroom
