Governor Induction Training

6.00pm - 9.00pm

This course is for new or fairly new Sixth Form College Governors, including SFC Academy governors and ‘associate’ or ‘external’ Governors.  Training is being provided for governors across colleges within the Wessex Group which will create an opportunity to meet governors working in similar situations.

The course is being driven by Matt Atkinson, Lighthouse Learning Trust, Jonathan Prest, Principal at Barton Peveril College and David Carpenter, Vice-Chair of Governors at Portsmouth College. It will run in an evening session and a light supper will be provided during the event (for which colleges may be charged a small fee to cover costs).

The training willl cover:

  • Legal framework & statutory defnition of responsibilities
  • Roles, core responsibilities and powers
  • Governance structures in various forms
  • The interface between governance and college management
  • What does OFSTED have to do with governance?

(Please note that there is separate induction training for Student Governors.)

Closing date for applications is Tuesday, 17th September 2019 on which date joining instructions will be sent and the delegate list finalised.
