Student Governor Training: indicative timing 9.00am - 4.00pm
This immersive training day event is for new or fairly new College Student Governors. Participants will cover a range of topics to help them fulfil their role of Student Governor and strengthen their ‘student voice’. It also creates a chance to meet students in similar situations and form a network for further sharing of ideas and experience beyond the structured sessions.
Topics covered
- understanding of the framework, responsibilities and structures around Governance
- essential meeting skills: including listening, asking questions, constructive debate and body language
- delegates have opportunities to explore their own experiences and to build their skills for engagement, leadership and governance
The day will be led by Unloc, Portsmouth-based specialists in working with young people and citizenship, with additional contributions from experienced clerks and governance professionals. This course is suitable for delegates from all types of college governance structures.
Before the session, venue information and any papers, such as programme details or course preparation will be sent. Lunch will be provided. Please bring pen and paper on the day.
Booking is done via your college Staff Development Officer or Clerk. It is helpful to know of any dietary requirements and accessibility needs.
Joining instructions and confirmation of a place will take place soon after booking close date. Note, there will be a fee for this training course of around £100 per delegate to cover costs, depending on uptake (this will be covered by participating colleges).
